SOUTHWEST PERFORMANCE ARTS LAUNCHES IN PHOENIX

Valley Entrepreneurs Launch Innovative
Performing Arts Academy

OCTOBER 23, 2009. PHOENIX.  SOUTHWEST PERFORMANCE ARTS, the Valley’s newest and most innovative center for performance arts training and education, announced its launch today.

The academy, which provides “real world” performance and media arts training for all ages, is a one-of-a-kind center, offering a unique and exciting blend of classes in such areas as “Choiceless Awareness” acting, runway and print modeling, rap performance, comedy, vocal performance, infomercials, talk show hosting, voice-overs, commercials, public speaking, newscasting, photo styling and fashion show production. Guest instructors from L.A. and New York have already been tapped to provide specialized on-site “intensives” and workshops. SWPA’s mission is to prepare students for success both locally and in major markets like Hollywood and New York.

SWPA was founded by longtime Hollywood actor, Kitty Stuart, and local fashion designer and entrepreneur, Debra Davenport, who identified a significant void in local performance education. “As working professionals, we’re continually monitoring the pulse of the arts and entertainment communities here in Phoenix,” said Stuart. “What we’ve observed is a lack of easy access to the kind of unique training available in cities like Los Angeles. Now people can study specialized performance areas without having to enroll in a college or university program. We’ve developed an exceptional curriculum and faculty designed specifically to fill an unmet need here in Phoenix.”

Giving back to the community is also a fundamental component of the organization’s mission and vision. Free acting and modeling classes for at-risk youth and victims of domestic violence are being created to build self-esteem and communication skills. Courses will be offered through various local charitable and social service organizations.

SWPA’s classes are currently being held at the Conservatory of Dance studios, located at 13637 North Tatum Boulevard, Suite 8, in Phoenix. For more information about classes, meeting times and registration, please call Southwest Performance Arts at (602) 334-1070.
